How to Translate the Untranslatable: A Transposition Based on Bolesław Leśmian’s Poetry

The article discusses transposition as a method of dealing with untranslatability by translators.
As exemplifi ed by the poetry of Bolesław Leśmian, it is shown how transposition can be applied
and what effects of it generates, which are directly related to the translator’s status in the text.
The effects of applying a series of transpositions are discussed such as: the transformation and development
of the target language, the triggering of intertextual transfer, the positive use of invariance,
and others.
