Abstract The second Reich was a transitional Reich. It collapsed because it did not have the time to create a successor.[ ] The second Reich was an incomplete Reich. It did not include Austria, which continued to live as a survivor of the first Reich alongside the second. It was a Small-German Reich,13 which we can only see as a deviation on the road to creating a Great-German Reich. The third Reichis a spiritual goal and simultaneously embraces a politicaltask. If we go under, then, in the light of the experiences we have had of other peoples, Germany itself goes under, and with it everything that has ever made Germans what they are. There is no people that could raise us up again.[ ]
