Death Ceremony Of Toraja People In Pelambua Village, Kolaka District (1958-2022)

The study aims to describe the background, process and meaning of the death ceremony of the Toraja Community in Pelambua Village, Pomalaa District, Kolaka Regency from 1958 to 1952. The research method used is the historical method with a structural approach. Heuristic data collection techniques consist of observation, interviews, and document studies. Source criticism through external criticism and internal criticism. Writing history through interpretation, explanation and presentation. The results of the study indicate that 1) The implementation of the death ceremony of the Toraja people in Pelambua Village is motivated by the religion they adhere to, either Islam or Christianity. In Pelambua Village, the majority of Toraja people are Christians. 2) The process of implementing the death ceremony of the Toraja people who are Christian and Muslim is different, as seen from the procedures for its implementation. 3) The Christian Toraja tribe still uses typical symbols from Tana Toraja such as the use of Tongkonan, carvings that depict the social status of the Toraja tribe and the application of colors to the carvings typical of Tana Toraja which have meaning. The implementation of death ceremonies according to the Torajan people, both those who still adhere to traditional beliefs and those who are Christian, is to accompany the deceased to the realm of Puya, which is believed by the Torajan people to be a gathering place for the deceased.
