The Septuagint as World Literature

AbstractThree aspects of the Septuagint assign it a place in world literature. First, the Septuagint is arguably the most famous translation in human history; one might say it came to incarnate the idea of translation as such. Second, the Septuagint created a unique form of discourse that proved fruitful into late antiquity and beyond, particularly in Christian literature. Third, some of the non‐translated books in the corpus, such as Judith or Wisdom of Solomon, would on their own justify the label of world literature for the Septuagint.
