Double-layered cape collar of machine-made net embroidered with cotton, England, 1830s. Double-layered cape collar of machine-made net embroidered with white cotton in overcast and some padded satin stitches. The wide collar is cut to sit over the very wide sleeves of the late 1830s. The lower collar meets in two long points at the centre front. Both upper and lower collar form straight lines across the wide back. All the edges, except for the neck edge, are cut in gentle scallops outlined in overcast stitch and decorated with a double row of delicate feathery leaf motifs. Machine-made net embroidered with cotton.
