Die Einleitung zu dieser III. Reihe stellt die Editionsprinzipien der Briefbände dar. Von Marie Johanne Fichte, geb. Rahn, einer Nichte Klopstocks, wird die gesamte Korrespondenz vom Tage ihrer Verehelichung mit Fichte bis zu dessen Tode mitaufgenommen. Dieser Band enthält vor allem die Briefe aus Fichtes Studien- und Hauslehrerzeit, den vorehelichen Briefwechsel mit seiner Verlobten sowie die ersten Briefe an Kant. Circa ein Drittel aller Briefe bzw. Briefentwürfe sind zum ersten Mal, zahlreiche andere erstmals vollständig veröffentlicht.
