It shares a 53 Km. long border with Assam and 109 Km. long </div> <div> border with Mizoram.&nbsp; As per census of 2001 the total population of this state is 31, 99,203 of </div> <div> whom 31.05% belong to the Tribal communities. </div> <div> The glory of Tripura kingdom is known from Puranic period and much before the </div> <div> Ramayana and the Mahabharata.&nbsp; The early history of the Present State of Tripura is Still </div> <div> shrouded into obscurity. No records in the shape of documents or monuments of the </div> <div> Authochthons people of the land belonging to the pre-historic or proto-historic periods have </div> <div> survived.&nbsp; </div> <div> The present state of Tripura was known as “Hill Tripperah” in the British period. It was </div> <div> ruled by the lunar dynasty of members with Manikya ending names since the beginning of </div> <div> the 15 th Century A.D. </div> <div> The British Govt. gave Tripura the status of “Native State” under the general </div> <div> supervision of a political agent and it was merged with India on October15, 1949 and </div> <div> became a full-fledged state on January 21, 1972. </div>
