The Impact of Partition of India on Tripura

<div> This paper makes an attempt to justify the over-all impact of Partition of India on Tripura. </div> <div> The Partition of India had not only changed the geographical landscape of this tiny Princely </div> <div> state, but also changed its political landscape. Due to the British policy of ‘Divide and Rule’ </div> <div> India attained independence on 15th August, 1947 in the wake of Partition. Really, the </div> <div> partition of India on the basis of religious parameter produced abundant problems of </div> <div> migration in the Princely state of Tripura. </div> <div> It is observed that like other parts of India, Tripura also witnessed the worst effects of </div> <div> Partition in the form of mass butchery of common people due to common riots, which </div> <div> ultimately led to the outcome of the problem of the refugees. After independence, within a </div> <div> decade or so, a great change came in the demography of Tripura as a result of heavy influx of </div> <div> migrants from East Pakistan due to common violence. The partition of India disrupted the </div> <div> chain of socio- economic relationship that Tripura built up with Colonial Bengal. Thus, it was </div> <div> the worst impact of the Partition that the people of West Pakistan as well as East Pakistan </div> <div> were compelled to be migrated into India in quest for peace and settlement to leave their </div> <div> place of origin and to move towards their ‘uncertain home’ leaving behind them their all </div> <div> ancestral property and even their personal identity. Before the Partition of India the tribal </div> <div> population of the state formed the majority, but the Partition made them to the level of </div> <div> minority. </div> <div> This paper also explains in detail about the social, cultural and economic impacts of the </div> <div> Partition of India on Tripura. The Partition of India deprived the state of its chief railheads in </div> <div> East Pakistan so that the state was cut off from the rest of the country and resulted in a huge </div> <div> infrastructural and economic setback for Tripura. As a matter of fact, the Partition of India </div> <div> was a disaster for Tripura. </div>
