ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH ENERGY CONSUMPTION OPTIMIZATION: A CASE STUDY OF ALGERIA

View through CrossRef
Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze the role of energy consumption optimization in achieving sustainable development in Algeria, the following research is therefore aimed at examining the part played by energy consumption optimization in the attainment of sustainable development in Algeria..   Theoretical Framework: Employing an interdisciplinary approach based on energy policy assessment as well as sustainable development concept, this study identifies Algeria’s energy problems, sectoral energy consumption, and the opportunity for renewable power as a source of economic and sustainable development.   Method: The energy consumption trends of Algeria from the year 2010 to 2014 were analyzed with the help of charts and graphs and also with the help of case studies on renewable energy projects and government policies. Sector-specific consumption data and renewable energy potential were synthesized to evaluate Algeria’s progress toward energy optimization.   Results and Discussion: The findings indicate that while Algeria’s energy consumption is dominated by the household, transport, and industrial sectors, significant opportunities exist for renewable energy deployment, particularly solar and wind. The government has achieved cost efficiency, employment and has also reduced CO2 emissions. Nevertheless, there are issues such as high costs, limited infrastructure, and delayed policy which hold back the progress towards sustainability.   Research Implications: This study offers insights into the best practices of energy optimization and thus can be a good starting point for the policymakers to deal with energy issues. The research also Stresses on the need for implementation awareness of campaigns, effective technological energy advancements, solutions.   Originality/Value: for This the study fills the gap in the literature by assessing Algeria’s renewable energy potential and suggesting practical recommendations for energy optimization. It also stresses the importance of the inclusion of policy changes and technology advancements in the attainment of sustainable development goals.
