De brujas, “monstruas” y freaks: El cuerpo grotesco en Jeanette Winterson = About Witches, Monsters and Freaks: The Grotesque Body in Jeanette Winterson

Resumen El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar las representaciones del cuerpo no normativo en las obras de Jeanette Winterson (1959) Espejismos y La mujer de púrpura. En especial, el cuerpo grotesco, que se ejemplifica en figuras como la del monstruo, el freak o las personas gordas. La metodología empleada consistirá en el análisis de los personajes femeninos protagonistas, con el apoyo de  textos secundarios que teorizan tanto sobre estas obras como acerca de asuntos como la reflexión sobre la diversidad corporal y el concepto de belleza en la época contemporánea. Se prestará especial atención a la posible finalidad subversiva y política que estas imágenes puedan sostener, en oposición a una belleza estándar.AbstractThe aim of this research is to analyze the representations of the non-normative body in two works by Jeanette Winterson (1959), Sexingthe Cherry and TheDaylight Gate. Especially, the grotesque body, which is exemplified in figures such as the monster, the freak or the fat people. The methodology used will consist of the analysis of the main female characters, with the support of secondary texts that theorize both about these works and about issues such as the consideration on the corporal diversity and the concept of beauty on the contemporary age. Special attention will be paid to the possible subversive and political purpose that these images may sustain, as opposed to a standard beauty.
