MANGOSTIN PADA KANKER PAYUDARA DAN POTENSI TERAPEUTIK

Mangostin, the main bioactive compound found in mangosteen rind (Garcinia mangostana), has shown great potential as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the world, causing millions of deaths each year. This study aims to activate the mechanism and therapeutic potential of mangostin in inhibiting the growth and spread of breast cancer cells through systematic literature review. The research method involved a literature search using the PubMed database with keywords such as "mangostin", "breast cancer", "mechanism", and "therapeutic potential". Articles selected based on inclusion criteria included in vitro and in vivo studies discussing the effects of mangostin on breast cancer cells and their molecular mechanisms. The results of the literature review showed that α-mangostin has various mechanisms in killing cancer cells, including inhibiting the cell cycle in the G1 phase, inducing apoptosis through the PI3K/AKT and MOAP-1/BAX signaling pathways, and inhibiting migration and metastasis by increasing cellular ROS levels and suppressing CXCR4 mRNA expression. In addition, α-mangostin inhibits kinase activity that is important for cancer cell development and induces endoplasmic reticulum stress and autophagy, which contribute to the apoptotic effect. In conclusion, α-mangostin shows great potential as an effective therapeutic agent in the treatment of breast cancer through various molecular mechanisms.
