Anti-Bacterial Activity And Formulation Of Cream From The Medicinal Plant: Nyctanthes Arbor-Tristis
View through CrossRef
Nyctanthes arbor-tristis is well known Indian medicinal plant. Qualitative analysis was carried out to identify the different classes of secondary metabolites in various chemical extracts such as water and methanol. Qualitative analysis of the extracts proved the presence of phytochemicals such as Saponin, Tannin, Flavonoid, Steroid, Terpenoid, Quinine, Coumarin, Emodin and Gum and Mucilage. The pharmacological interest of these compounds, coupled with the use of this plant in traditional medicine prompted the authors to check for its possible antibacterial activity. The extract ethanol were found to possess maximum potency against infectious pathogens like gram(+ve)Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and gram(+ve) Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The zone of inhibition was observed after conformed with cell diffusion method with selected bacteria. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of the extracts were found to be significant. The obtained results provide a support for the use of this plant in traditional medicine and its further investigation.
