SEAWEED CULTIVATION BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY IN IMPROVING THE ECONOMY OF FISHING COMMUNITIES IN WATANG SUPPA, SUPPA DISTRICT, PINRANG REGENCY

The seaweed cultivation business has grown rapidly in water areas, both in ponds and in the sea almost throughout Indonesia, including in Suppa District, Pinrang. As an area that has a fairly high potential and productivity in the development of marine aquaculture, Suppa District continues to experience problems in planning this business development strategy. This is influenced by a variety of factors. This study aims to know the strategy of developing seaweed cultivation businesses in fishing communities of Suppa District in improving the economy. In carrying out the research, researchers use qualitative approach with descriptive methods. From this study, there are several strategies carried out by of Suppa District’s fishing communities in developing seaweed cultivation businesses, consisting of product development strategies, marketing development strategies, concentrated development strategies and innovation development. However, most of the strategies that have been implemented have not had a maximum impact on fishing communities in Suppa District.
