A Comprehensive Review of the Ayurvedic Perspective on Manasik Swasthya
View through CrossRef
Mental health plays a crucial role in overall well-being, involving our emotional, psychological, and social balance. Over the past few decades, there has been increasing recognition that sound mental health is more than just the absence of mental disorders—it includes positive attributes like emotional strength, self-awareness, and the capacity to cope with everyday life. Objective: To study the detailed understanding of Manasik Swasthya based on Ayurved literary sources. Materials and method: A conceptual study entails the review and analysis of existing literature focused on a Manasik Swasthya concept. This process involves exploring classical texts, scientific journals, dissertations, and relevant research papers. Result: Ayurveda, the traditional medical science of India, offers a comprehensive perspective on health that integrates the wellness of the body (Sharira), mind (Manas), senses (Indriya), and soul (Atma). Unlike modern medical systems, which often approach the body and mind separately, Ayurveda views them as deeply interconnected, emphasizing that true health (Swasthya) cannot be achieved without mental stability. In Ayurvedic philosophy, Manasik Swasthya or mental health is defined not merely by the lack of mental illness but by a harmonious state of mind, thoughts, and emotions—guided by mental strength (Satva) and a balanced interplay of the three mental qualities (Trigunas): Satva, Rajas, and Tamas. Conclusion: In today’s metaphysical society, human life has become speedy, mechanized, less efficacious and more centred, which contribute to more production of Kama (Desire), Krodha (anger), Lobha (greed), Bhaya (fear), Soka (Grief), Chinta (Worry) and Irsa (envy) etc. like Manasa Vikaras. In this way, accurate knowledge of Manasa is necessary to understand about nature of life and health.
