Michel Tremblay, Damnée Manon, Sacrée Sandra Sainte-Carmen of the Main The Impromptu of Outremont
View through CrossRef
Michel Tremblay is, without doubt, Quebec’s most well-known dramatist and probably the best dramatist this land has yet produced. His plays are done not only in French and English in Quebec, but in English translation all across Canada and with increasing frequency in the United States and England. In France, Tremblay’s joual plays (he himself now prefers to call their special language Quebecois rather than joual) are even considered somewhat chic these days. The recent publication of Renate Usmiani’s major scholarly study of Tremblay and the release of three more Tremblay plays by Vancouver’s Talonbooks then is simply further proof that a playwright of acknowledged world genius has truly arisen in our midst.
