Frustrated Lewis Pair Reactivity of Bis(1-methyl-ortho-carboranyl)borane

View through CrossRef
Carboranyl substituted boranes are attractive Lewis acids for frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) chemistry due to their tremendous bulk and high Lewis acidity. In FLP chemistry, secondary boranes are uncommon Lewis acids due to the limited bulk. In this work, we interrogate bis(1-methyl-ortho-carboranyl)borane as a Lewis acid in FLP chemistry that reveals the secondary borane is sufficiently bulky to preclude adduct formation with a variety of Lewis bases and can be applied in bond activation reactions.
