Wojciech of Poznań and the Trans Archive, Poland, 1550–1561
View through CrossRef
This chapter explains the trans archive in Poland in line with Wojciech of Poznań. It expounds on the vague sense of Wojciech's gender, especially after three marriages with men and more sexual activities with women. The chapter notes Wojciech's varying gendered pronouns. While Wojciech was publicly forced to work and conform to a single gender, they lived a trans or genderqueer life prior to their arrest and execution. The court deposition of Wojciech of Poznań can play a positive proof of the existence of premodern trans and queer communities in Poland. Moreover, Wojciech's deposition offers today's LGBTQ people a positive way to participate in national mythmaking and includes them in our stories of origins.
