Od ucznia do partnera naukowego i przyjaciela: kontakty Rudolfa Jamki z Józefem Kostrzewskim (1930–1966)

In the chapter, Rudolf Jamka’s close contacts with Professor Józef Kostrzewski – long-time leader of the Poznań archaeological centre – are presented. In the interwar period, Kostrzewski served as Director of the Institute of Prehistory at the University of Poznań (UP) and Head of the Prehistoric Department of the Wielkopolska Museum in Poznań. Jamka’s first significant, year-long stay in Poznań (1930–1931) was connected with his internship at the Institute, which involved independent archaeological excavations, editorial work on the bimonthly journal “Z Otchłani Wieków” (From the Depths of the Ages), and participation in the Second Congress of Students of Prehistory at Universities (Poznań, 23–26 May 1931). Jamka carried out the first of these tasks at three sites: Poznań-Dębiec (a Neolithic settlement of the Stroked Pottery culture), Miękówko, Poznań District (a Lusatian culture cemetery from the Late Bronze Age), and Kcynia, Szubin District (a thirteenth-century sunken-featured house with a cellar). Jamka assumed the duties of editor of “Z Otchłani Wieków” in mid-1931 (from issue 1931/4–5) and continued in this role long after the end of his Poznań internship, until issue 1935/1. During the proceedings of the Second Congress of Students of Prehistory, Jamka was one of its most active participants. In the course of the discussions, he put forward several proposals of significance to his scholarly milieu. After completing his internship, he continued his cooperation with J. Kostrzewski in Poznań as a volunteer, after which he returned to Kraków. In the post-war period, a number of further contacts between R. Jamka and the Poznań scholarly community can be observed, including his participation in the Second Conference of Polish Prehistorians and the associated Congress of Delegates of Prehistoric Museums of the Union of Polish Museums. In 1950, he was appointed a member of the Western Institute (IZ) in Poznań.
