Euboean koine
View through CrossRef
AbstractThe term “Euboean koine” refers to the recurrence of particular classes of material culture of the Sub‐Mycenaean to Late Protogeometric and Sub‐Protogeometric periods (eleventh to the mid‐ninth centurybce) on a wide geographical area, which comprises Euboea, Skyros, Oropos, the coastal regions of Boiotia, Phokis, East Lokris, Phtiotis, Thessaly, certain Cycladic islands, and the North Sporades, mainly Skiathos (Kefala). Lefkandi in Euboea forms the center of the koine and provides the best documented material sequence for the period in question. After the decline of Lefkandi, the growing involvement of Euboeans in the North Aegean, in the Cyclades, and in the western and eastern Mediterranean appears to have reached its climax by 700bce.
