One can see a pattern of hanging hanging on the wall by a nail, underneath it a sign was nailed into the wall with the inscription: “GEORGES FRÉDERIC HAENDEL.” The sign and image were depicted by the artist in such a way that they stood out from the wall.
This portrait lithography was published in 1863 in the following publication: Amédée Méreaux: Les Clavecinistes de 1637 à 1790. 52 liv. (History du Clavecin, portraits et biographies, etc.). Paris: Heugel & Cie, [1863-67]. The illustration is related to the very similar, anonymous copper engraving from the publisher Breitkopf & Härtel, which is kept under the signature BS-I 32 in the collection of the Abbildung Händel-Haus Foundation. The National Library of France also has a leaf.
