Porträt Georg Friedrich Händel
View through Europeana Collections
A left-turned portrait of Georg Friedrich Händel. The composer looks to the left edge of the picture and wears wig and baroque clothing. On the portraits of John Faber and Thomas Hudson, which could be a template, this sheet is shown in a sideways manner. In contrast to the two artists, Johann Friedrich Hasler reduced his portrait to a chest, changed wig and clothing and background. There you can see the hint of a landscape. A puncture by Carl Traugott Riedel would be considered as a further template, as wig, clothing and facial features are very similar. Furthermore, Hasler has put a cloth around his shoulder in the present leaf Handel, which Maxim Gauci also did in his lithography.
Artist’s signature: Hasler L. 1825
Inscription: G: Fr: Händel (schrift Händel-Haus Halle Foundation)
