Introduction

The introduction sets out Gloria Wekker’s groundbreaking interventions within the field of sexuality studies, and her specific focus on race, empire, and gender in the Dutch Kingdom, Europe, and the Caribbean. We then map Wekker’s key theoretical contributions alongside her trajectory as a scholar, public intellectual, and feminist thinker, and invite readers to become familiar with the interdisciplinary breadth and scope of Wekker’s work. Specifically, we show how Wekker’s scholarly work builds on and dialogues with Black diasporic scholarship. Finally, the introduction offers insight into the organization of the reader, and the four overarching thematic themes: “Sexuality on the Move,” “Black Europe,” “The Cultural Archive,” and “Transnational Feminism.”
