This chapter describes Plutarch's essay The Malice of Herodotus and explains how it was an oddity among his works. It explains how the essay criticized the works of the Herodotus in all manner of prejudice and misrepresentation. It also emphasizes Plutarch's desire to rescue his ancestors' good name, the Boeotians and Corinthians, that were vilified in Herodotus' Histories. This chapter looks into Plutarch's unexpected narrow outlook as a citizen of the Roman empire and fondness for the Greek village, Chaeronea.
