Corbulo, Gnaeus Domitius

View through CrossRef
AbstractA charismatic and physically imposing general, Corbulo (4BCE?‐67CE;PIR2D 141;RE50) became famous as a commander of Roman armies under Claudius and Nero. His high profile reflects the increasing opportunities for political advancement available to ambitious men of undistinguished ancestry under the Julio‐Claudian emperors, as well as the limitations and dangers that sometimes attended their careers.
