The commentary covers topics of historical, literary, and linguistic interest, providing support to readers of both the English and Latin texts. It is keyed to the translation. Close attention is given to place-names, to attempt to identify locations where possible. What is known about named individuals is explained, as well as military terms. Julius Caesar’s digression on the topography of Britain is fully explicated. Events in Gaul such as Ambiorix’s revolt and the ambush of Sabinus are described.
