View through CrossRef
João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata are one of the most cosmopolitan and popular duos in contemporary world cinema. Their works tell us particular stories of love and the many dimensions of human desire and these stories have found a highly favourable reception among international festival audiences and critics. Despite their high profile, Rodrigues and da Mata’s work remain relatively understudied. ReFocus: The Films of João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata intends to pave way for the study of the directors’ work while it considers analysis of the various cinematic perspectives on their films, from short to full-length features. This book represents the first collection dedicated to Rodrigues and da Mata, addressing historical, political, stylistic, industry, and cultural dimensions of their work, thus providing the critical recognition the directors deserve.
