Trzysta lat w klasztorze… dziedzictwo misjonarzy katolickich na Filipinach i jego obraz w Eli, Eli Wojciecha Tochmana

The article presents the heritage of Catholic orders operating in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period. This is not a historical study, however, but a historically oriented cultural analysis in which the past is viewed through the prism of memory. The subject of the analysis is a reportage book Eli, Eli by Wojciech Tochman. The first part of the paper recalls key fragments of this cultural text depicting Spanish colonisation and the role of Catholic orders in this period. They constitute a starting point for a critical analysis of the claims presented there and for the reconstruction of crucial features of missionary activity in the Philippines.
