L’any 1962 Pearse Hutchinson, traductor de poesia a l’anglès i a l’irlandès i poeta ell mateix, va rebre l’encàrrec de fer una antologia bilingüe de la poesia lírica de Josep Carner, per a donar suport a la candidatura de Carner al Premi Nobel de Literatura. El propòsit d’aquestes notes és subratllar la importància de l’obra que en va resultar, Poems. S’hi dona ordenada la informació disponible sobre la gènesi del llibre, completada amb unes quantes dades inèdites; i s’hi descriuen breument les preferències de Hutchinson com a antòleg i traductor.
