Abstract
This is an introductory chapter to the volume Christian Wolff’s German Ethics: New Essays. The chapter begins by situating the German Ethics within the history of ethics and suggests that Wolff has been unjustly neglected in this discussion. It then outlines Wolff’s life and key works, while highlighting the attention he gave to practical philosophy throughout his life. The chapter sketches the influence and impact of Wolff’s philosophy, focusing on his early German works and his ethics. This is followed by an outline of the structure and content of the German Ethics. The chapter concludes with a brief summary of the volume’s sixteen chapters.
