<span>Chapter1: Foundations of Renewable and Intelligent Digital Ecosystems</span>

The&nbsp; prominent&nbsp; role&nbsp; of&nbsp; information&nbsp; and&nbsp; communications&nbsp; technology&nbsp; (ICT)&nbsp; in&nbsp; modern society&nbsp; motivates&nbsp; the&nbsp; exploration&nbsp; of&nbsp; an&nbsp; integrated,&nbsp; cross-disciplinary&nbsp; ICT&nbsp; for&nbsp; Society framework.&nbsp; Digital&nbsp; society&nbsp; service&nbsp; ecosystems&nbsp; (DSSE)&nbsp; comprise&nbsp; the&nbsp; perception, processing,and&nbsp; delivery&nbsp; of&nbsp; services&nbsp; via&nbsp; transparent&nbsp; interactions&nbsp; amongst&nbsp; people&nbsp; with different&nbsp; &nbsp;interests,&nbsp; &nbsp;organizations,&nbsp; &nbsp;and&nbsp; &nbsp;science.&nbsp; &nbsp;Three&nbsp; &nbsp;core&nbsp; &nbsp;constituents&nbsp; &nbsp;emerge: renewable&nbsp; energy&nbsp; sources,&nbsp; intelligent&nbsp; digital&nbsp; ecosystems,&nbsp; and&nbsp; digital&nbsp; intelligence software embeddedin DDSE.Fig 1.1: Foundations of renewable digital ecosystemsThe&nbsp; delivery&nbsp; of&nbsp; nonreplicative&nbsp; services&nbsp; in&nbsp; conjunction&nbsp; with&nbsp; replicative&nbsp; manufacturing services requires the coupling of an information ecosystem composed of DDSE and new digital intelligence software dedicated to economy-of-scale applications with a supply-side ecosystem supported by renewable resources, supported by dedicated supply-side policy&nbsp; &nbsp;frameworks,&nbsp; &nbsp;designed&nbsp; &nbsp;for&nbsp; &nbsp;eficiency&nbsp; &nbsp;but&nbsp; &nbsp;enabled&nbsp; &nbsp;thro gh&nbsp; &nbsp;selfish&nbsp; &nbsp;utility-maximizing behavior.
