This article compares the different notions of "happiness" that Gilbert Keith Chesterton and Jorge Luis Borges handle in their respective works. Undoubtedly, Chesterton's notion of happiness is marked by his militant Catholicism, of a transcendent nature, while Borges' responds to a secular scheme, of an immanent nature. But, as Borges knew well, readers not only complete, but also rewrite works. That is why Borges decided to rewrite Chesterton's work, reducing the religious component, in order to feed his own secular so-teriology, which is one of the fundamental centers of all his work.
