Bektaşi tekkelerinin kapatılmasının (1826) Seyyid Ali (Kızıldeli) Sultan Dergâhı’na yansımaları
View through CrossRef
Seyyid Ali (Kızıldeli) Sultan Dervish Lodge was founded at the end of the 14th century in the Cebel
sub-district of Dimetoka. Meanwhile, the income of the convent was increased by establishing
a foundation and connecting 24 villages and hamlets in the surrounding area. Due to its rich
real estate and income, the dervish lodge, which came to the fore mostly from foundation
issues in the historical process, remained open until 1826. The year 1826 was a year when the
Bektashi sect was banned and the convents were closed. On this date, Bektashi convents were
abolished along with the Janissary corps. For this reason, the first Bektashi structure to be
closed in Rumelia was the Seyyid Ali Sultan Lodge. The Governor of Cirmen, Esad Pasha, sent
soldiers to the convent and, using the approaching Tatar Fair and Muharrem Mourning as an
excuse, took action before the edict to close the Lodge of Seyyid Ali Sultan reached the region.
After closing the lodge and confiscating its belongings and real estate, he sent 24 dervishes into
exile. The main building of the lodge was converted into a mosque, and its other annexes and
assets were confiscated and sold. Thus, the dervish lodge, whose activities were terminated,
remained closed for a long time. The Bektashis, who were reintroduced to the dervish lodge
where they were expelled after the Bektashi ban softened after Mahmut II, struggled for more
than half a century to return their dervish properties here. Seyyid Ali Sultan Lodge was one of
the important centers of Bektashism in the region. The Bektashis, who managed to overcome
the effects of the 1826 prohibition, albeit partially, had to migrate to Turkey gradually due to the
pressures of Greece after the end of the Turkish administration in the region.
