In May 2014, a trial excavation took place at the Ha-Temarim 1 shipwreck (Permit No. A-7121; map ref. 207748/757795; Fig. 1). The excavation, on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority with the assistance of OceanGate foundation and Koret Foundation, was undertaken in cooperation with the University of Rhode Island, and was directed by J. Sharvit and D. Planer from the IAA Marine Archaeology Unit, in cooperation with B. Buxton of the University of Rhode Island, and J. Hale of the University of Louisville, Kentucky, with the assistance of S. Ben-Yehuda (drafting, plans, finds drawing and GIS), N. Lispschitz (identification of wood species), and students from the University of Rhode Island and volunteers.
