עכו, תל עכו

In July-September 2006 and November-December 2008, excavations were conducted on the western part of Tel 'Akko (Area W; Permit Nos. A-4846, A-5548; map ref. 208218/758578), prior to the expansion of the railway. The excavations, on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority, were directed by A. Abu Hamid (photography) and H. Abu-'Uqsa, with the assistance of Y. Ya'aqobi and Y. Lavan (administration), V. Essman, V. Pirsky, R. Mishayev and A. Shapiro (surveying and drafting), H. Smithline (photography) and D. Syon (numismatics). Most of the artifacts were processed in the Sir Maurice and Lady Irene Hatter Laboratory for Coastal and Harbour Archaeology at the University of Haifa.
