Sports Instruction Enhanced by Posture Recognition: A Study Using the Baduanjin as a Case

View through CrossRef
Abstract This research investigated the effectiveness of posture recognition technology in online Baduanjin instruction. A teaching experiment was conducted with two randomly selected college classes (n = 70) for eight weeks, with participants divided into an experimental group (n = 35) receiving posture recognition-assisted Baduanjin instruction and a control group (n = 35) receiving traditional online instruction. The study assessed the impact on sports learning interest, self-directed learning ability, and Baduanjin skill proficiency using validated questionnaires and expert evaluation. Results demonstrated a significant increase in sports learning interest, particularly in positive learning attitude, sports skill acquisition, extracurricular sports activities, and sports attention, for the experimental group. The experimental group also showed a significant enhancement in self-directed learning ability, especially in learning motivation. Both groups exhibited significant improvement in Baduanjin skill proficiency, with the experimental group demonstrating significantly higher scores than the control group. These findings highlight the potential of posture recognition technology to promote student engagement, enhance self-directed learning, and improve technical proficiency in online sports learning. The study discusses limitations and potential future research directions, emphasizing the need for further exploration of this promising technology in online sports education.
