An Acceptance and Critique. The Commentary to Dorota Terakowska’s Artistic Biography The main aim of this article is to describe the artistic biography of Dorota Terakowska through the notions of both acceptance and critique. In this article, acceptance and critique relate to the attitude of the author. Acceptance has two different forms – positive and negative. The first reflects the writer’s attitude toward the democratic circumstances and how their writing process is not determined by the limitations of politics or customs. The negative acceptance is heavily linked to the impact of the communist regime on the writers and their works. This point of view on the writer’s attitude enables an analysis of the work’s structure and literary convention, style, genre, and writing strategy. Nonetheless, the critique is a consequence of an express acceptance (positive and negative) by the writer, and it is epitomized in the text structure via the literary convention, style, genre, and writing strategy. When viewed through the notions of acceptance and critique, the artistic biography of Dorota Terakowska allows us to show her literary achievement in a new light. The authoress debuted the realistic short novel Novel [Opowiadanie] in the popular magazine “Przekrój” in 1962. After the political breakthrough in Poland (1989), she became a famous authoress of fantasy novels.
