Loneliness, suffering, and sacrifice – A literary picture of youth in Dorota Terakowska’s prose Adolescence is a very special period in everybody’s life, and a very interesting one for scientific research and for artists, especially for writers. This article describes methods of presenting adolescence in chosen books of Dorota Terakowska for young readers. The world in her books is characterized, on the one hand, by universal values and, on the other hand, by symbols. Young protagonists of her books are involved in difficult and complicated situations. There is loneliness, suffering, and sacrifice written into the young people’s lives. The protagonists’ demeanor and the way they cope with adversities make young readers more empathic and help them to see other people’s problems more clearly.
