AN EXAMINATION OF THE FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR ONLINE ADVANCE FEE FRAUD VICTIMIZATION AMONG YOUTHS IN BIRNIN KUDU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, JIGAWA STATE, NIGERIA

The study examines the factors responsible for online advance fee fraud victimization among
youths in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The specific objectives set for the
study were to identify the factors responsible for online advance fee fraud victimization among
youth victims in Birnin Kudu Local Government area.A total of 440 respondents, aged 18 years
and above were selected for the study. The study utilized multi stage cluster, availability and
purposive sampling techniques. Questionnaire and in-depth interview guide were used as
instruments of data collection for the study. The analysed data was presented on frequency
distribution tables. However, the qualitative data collected was transcribed and interpreted to
complement the quantitative data. Findings from the study revealed that get rich quick syndrome
is the major factor responsible for online advance fee fraud victimization among youths in Birnin
Kudu Local Government Area. In view of the findings, it is recommended that government should
create job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths living in the society. This will make
the youth more engage and change their mind set to forget about easy money.
