Pengaruh Adversity Quotient terhadap Work-Study Conflict pada Mahasiswa yang Bekerja

Abstract. Students who assume dual roles as learners and workers face challenges in balancing academic and work demands simultaneously. This condition may lead to work–study conflict, a situation in which work responsibilities interfere with the fulfillment of academic obligations. This study aims to examine the effect of adversity quotient on work–study conflict among working undergraduate students in Bandung City. This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The participants consisted of 111 working undergraduate students in Bandung City. Data were collected using questionnaires comprising two measurement instruments: an adversity quotient scale based on Stoltz’s theory (2000) and a work–study conflict scale based on the theory of Markel and Frone (1998). Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that adversity quotient has a significant negative effect on work–study conflict, with adversity quotient contributing 79.2% to the variance in work–study conflict. The findings suggest that higher levels of adversity quotient are associated with lower levels of work–study conflict among students. The implications of this study highlight the importance of enhancing adversity quotient to help working students manage dual role demands more adaptively and minimize conflicts between work and academic responsibilities.
Abstrak. Mahasiswa yang menjalani peran ganda sebagai pelajar dan pekerja menghadapi tantangan dalam menyeimbangkan tuntutan akademik dan pekerjaan secara bersamaan. Kondisi ini berpotensi menimbulkan work-study conflict, yaitu situasi di mana tanggung jawab pekerjaan menghambat pemenuhan kewajiban akademik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh adversity quotient terhadap work-study conflict pada mahasiswa yang bekerja di Kota Bandung. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain cross-sectional. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 111 mahasiswa S1 yang bekerja di Kota Bandung. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan kuesioner yang terdiri dari dua alat ukur, yaitu skala adversity quotient berdasarkan teori Stoltz (2000), serta skala work-study conflict berdasarkan teori Markel dan Frone (1998). Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis regresi linier sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adversity quotient berpengaruh negatif secara signifikan terhadap work-study conflict, dengan adversity quotient memberikan kontribusi sebesar 79,2% terhadap variasi work-study conflict. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi adversity quotient yang dimiliki mahasiswa, maka semakin rendah tingkat work-study conflict yang dialami. Implikasi penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan adversity quotient penting untuk membantu mahasiswa yang bekerja dalam mengelola tuntutan peran ganda secara lebih adaptif guna meminimalkan konflik antara pekerjaan dan studi.
