Silurian Ostracoda from Anticosti Island, Quebec

View through CrossRef
Anticosti Island, at the northern edge of the Appalachian structural province, presents the most complete sequence of Late Ordovician to Middle Silurian sedimentary rocks in eastern North America. Fossiliferous Silurian strata of Alexandrian and Niagaran ages are some 1,300 feet thick and occur in the southern two-thirds of the island. Ostracodes are prominent in the Silurian fauna; fifty genera (five new) and ninety species (fifty-nine new) are described in this paper. In particular, the Niagaran elements of this microfauna permit widespread correlation with strata of similar age throughout the eastern part of the continent.
