Early Silurian ostracodes from southeastern Quebec and northern New Brunswick

View through CrossRef
The diverse Early Silurian ostracode faunas described in this paper from Gaspé Peninsula, Québec, and northern New Brunswick, are contained within several belts of Anticostian and Wenlockian rocks of the Appalachian orogen. These belts are intermediate in aerial extent between Anticosti Island, Québec and those from the northeastern United States. Several formations, mostly of calcareous rocks, are represented in these belts, not all of which were examined for ostracodes. Two new genera are described: Culliganites and Loisellites, and 21 new species: the palaeocopes Aechmina duvalensis, Aechminaria gaspensis, Beyrichia (Simplicibeyrichia) robusta, Bollia alcocki, Bollia chaleursensis, Bollia escuminacensis, Bonneprimites ovalis, Culliganites brunswickensis, Euprimitia gaspensis, Euprimitia magnaporosa, Euprimitia robusta, Garniella sayabecensis, Limbinaria elongata, Limbinaria quebecensis, Paranoviportia gaspensis, Paraschmidtella danielensis, Sigynus nowlani, and Winchillatia pustulosa, and the podocopes Cadmea loisellensis, Loisellites porosa and Ovornina (Tricornella) minuta.
