Should Band (Clavus): Floral Pattern

View through Harvard Museums
Narrow inwoven tapestry band with pendant. Plain/tabby woven undyed linen fabric survives above and below the band. The decorative portion consists of a tightly packed pattern of red leaves or flower buds and green dots. The red leaves have yellow and white detailing, and the green dots have yellow centers. The dots form diamond shapes around the larger leaves. The warps run perpendicular to the length of the band. The wefts of the tapestry woven section are red, yellow, green, and white wool and undyed linen. This was likely once the shoulder band (clavus) from the front or back of a linen tunic.
