Flower Garlands in the Flemish Painting of the XVII Century
View through CrossRef
The paper aims to trace the history of flower garlands in the Flemish painting of the XVII century. Scientific originality of the study involves justifying the thesis that the motive itself and the “flower garland” religious painting genre were very popular in the art of Flanders in the XVII century; its origin is associated with the most important trends in historical development of the West European countries. The following conclusions are justified: flower garlands appeared in the Flemish painting in the XVII century, their history is closely associated with the Catholic faith; “flower garland” paintings performed different functions, the most important of which was specified in statutes of the Council of Trent.
