La película de Ari Folman El congreso (The Congress, 2013), realizada a partir de la novela de ciencia ficción El congreso de futurología (1971), del polaco Stanis?aw Lem, presenta una distopía sobre la gradual disolución de lo humano en un entorno virtual, utilizando como escenario de partida el Hollywood con­temporáneo. Este ensayo destacará, en primer lugar, cómo la metáfora de Lem sobre la manipulación de la información bajo las dictaduras se transforma en una visión del cine como adicción colectiva, lo que relacionaremos con las teo­rías del cine total según Edgar Morin y Alexander Dovjenko, principalmente. A continuación, se analizarán las consecuencias narratológicas de la alternancia entre imagen real y animación dibujada en la película, dando lugar a la meta­lepsis (Genette; Feyersinger) como simulacro que se superpone a la realidad. Por último, la idea del cine como medio frankensteiniano (Burch), también presente en la literatura de ficción sudamericana (Bioy Casares; Palma), donde la forma cinematográfica es un archivo que sustituye a lo viviente, nos llevará a relacionar El congreso con las tesis de Baudrillard y Cholodenko sobre cómo las tecnologías mediantes han desembocado en la cultura del borrado.Palabras clave: Ari Folman, Stanis?aw Lem, animación, simulacro, metalep­sis, ciencia-ficción, star system, psicodelia.Abstract Ari Folman’s The Congress (2013), taking freely from the Stanis?aw Lem’s science fiction novel The Futurological Congress (1971), introduces a dystopian view on the gradual dissolution of the human in a virtual environment, which Ari Folman moves to contemporary Hollywood. This essay will highlight, first, how Lem’s metaphor on the manipulation of information in the Soviet era is transformed into a vision of cinema as a collective addiction, relating it to Edgar Morin’s and Alexander Dovzhenko’s speculative theories of total film. Then, the essay will delve into the narratological consequences of alternating live action and drawn animation in the film, resulting in the metalepsis (Genette; Feyersinger) as a simulacrum that overlaps reality. Finally, Nöel Burch’s idea of film as a Frankensteinian medium, also present in South American fiction (Bioy Casares; Palma), where the film becomes a file that replaces the living, take us to relate The Congress with Jean Baudrillard’s and Alan Cholodenko’s thesis on how mediating technologies have resulted in the culture of erasing.Keywords: Ari Folman, Stanis?aw Lem, animation, simulacrum, metalepsis, Sci-Fi, Star System, psychedelia.
