CLINICAL EVALUATION ON PUNARNAVA GUGGULU, MAHARASNADI KWATH AND BRIHAT SAINDYAVADI TAILA FOR MANAGEMENT OF AMAVATA (RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS)

View through CrossRef
Amavata is a painful chronic systemic disease with special involvement of multiple joints, and it is more similar to Rheumatoid arthritis according to its clinical manifestations and pathogenesis. Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis) is a burning problem in society because a suitable, effective standard treatment for Rheumatoid arthritis is not available in modern medicine to date. A total of 34 patients were enrolled from the O.P.D. of the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), as per the criteria for diagnosing Amavata (Rheuma-toid arthritis) for clinical observation. Four patients dropped out of the observation before the treatment was completed, and 30 patients completed the treatment schedule. The treatment schedule consisted of 500 mg of Punarnava Guggulu taken orally twice daily after meals with water for 4 weeks, 25 ml of Maharasanadi Kwath taken orally twice daily before meals for 4 weeks, and Brihat Saindyavadi taila applied locally twice daily over the affected joints for 4 weeks. In that study, it was observed that the majority of female patients suffered from Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis), and most of the patients were in the 31 to 40 years age group. Maximum Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis) patients showed moderate remission in that study, and no complications were found in patients during the observation.
