Worship of Quan Thanh De Quan and Quan De temple in Hong Ngu

The worship of Quan Thanh De Quan (Quan Cong, 關公) originates from the Chinese’s spiritual and cultural needs. Quan Thanh De Quan Temple, or in short Quan De Temple – the place to worship Quan Thanh De Quan – was built on the ground of their dualistic thinking. In the South in general and in Hong Ngu, Dong Thap in particular, on the onset of the Southern land clearance, Lord Nguyen skillfully made use of subjects of the Ming dynasty as a part of human resources to explore new lands, thus, approving their settling down and building Quan De Temple. Quan De Temple, Hong Ngu was originally constructed by the Chinese and Vietnamese residents in Tra Du (now belonging to Thi hamlet, Thuong Lac commune, Hong Ngu rural district). It was later moved Thuong Lac and in 1956 to the current location in Hong Ngu town. Due to the amalgamation of culture, Quan De Temple, Hong Ngu is the spiritual and cultural architecture not only of the Chinese but also of all communities in the areas of Hong Ngu.
