Fragment einer Prinzessinnenlocke einer Statue
View through Europeana Collections
In 1912, Borchardt came across the walls of an extensive complex, which was identified as the place of residence and work of the skyscraper Thutmosis. In the workshops of this large-scale facility there were numerous individual parts for statues next to the famous bust of the Nefertiti. These parts were mostly body parts, which were made of various materials and which could be combined. The finished statue consisted of a composition of individual pieces, which shaped the technical term “composite statue.” Particularly impressive is the insertable curl of a princess (ÄM 21272). It is made of granite and can be inserted into the head of a composite statue by a cone.
