Organization of an interventional neuroradiology service

Abstract
Interventional neuroradiology has emerged along- side neurosurgery as a medical specialty offering minimally invasive therapies for neurovascular dis- eases (Byrne 1997). The unique skills and expertise of the interventional neuroradiologist are complementary to those of neurosurgeons and neurologists. Interventional neuroradiology cannot be successfully practised without the support of colleagues in both these specialties. Of these relationships, that with neurosurgery is crucial, and because the interventional neuroradiologist needs to work closely with neurosurgeons, the subspecialty is best practised within the framework of a neurovascular unit.
