GAO XINGJIAN, Artist & Nobel Prize Winner

Gao Xingjian is a painter and writer who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in the year 2000. He began painting in childhood, an activity that led him to the literary field writing stories and poems, plays and even musical works; he was a French translator and screenwriter at the Beijing People's Arts Theater. His paintings are neither figurative nor abstract, but play with light and shadow, often including silhouettes of figures sailing in the distance.
