The Autobiography of Jean Piaget
View through CrossRef
Jean Piaget finished writing his autobiography in French in 1976. It consisted of three parts, two of which have been previously translated by different authors. Part one was written in 1950, translated by Donald MacQueen, and published in 1952. It was published in E. G. Boring, et al (eds.), A history of Psychology in autobiography (Vol. 14, pp. 237-256). This is the autobiography of Piaget most widely known and cited by scholars. But a second updated version appeared in 1966, covering the years 1950 to 1966. It was translated by Sarah Campbell and Elizabeth Rütschi-Herrmann and together with the earlier version appeared in Campbell (1976). It covered the longer period of 1896 to 1966. This updated version seems not to be known by most scholars. Finally, Piaget’s final installment appeared in French in 1976. It consists of the first two parts and, in addition, a third part, which covered the years 1966-1976. This is the full and complete autobiography of Jean Piaget. Neither this third part nor the full autobiography have ever been translated and published in English.I have translated the final (third) part of Piaget’s autobiography and added the earlier parts that have already been translated in English. In addition, I have added an Introduction, a few notes, references, and comments
